Description

A crag with a short approach, sunny south-facing aspect and home of the locally famous off-width challenge, Carnival Crack. The rock is well featured and solid, albeit less traveled than other crags.

Getting There

Park at the 8-mile rock where the commonly traveled Classic Crack is located. Carnival crack is easily spotted from the road. Hike up the hill on an established trail to the base. If you are aiming to set up a top rope, from the base go to the climber's right and follow the trail to the top.

Grunt, cuss, bleed and scream your way up the notorious 8" crack. The crux comes in the overhanging section after a near complete rest at a ledge. After getting savage on the overhanging section, the route eases only slightly when the crack becomes vertical. It ain't over till you pull over on top and are fighting back urges to puke.
