Description

Camp Horizon is a United Methodist ran facility. It is primarily used for summer camps. It is best known for its mountain biking trails but has the potential for small wall face climbing. The facility is normally open to the pubic to visit and bike. The staff here is very nice and the welcome center sports a bathroom and shower facility. I happened to stumble upon the wall while exploring the area. It looks like it may be used by a natural stage and gathering spot for the campers during the season. I didn't have any of my gear at the time but it looks to have some potential. There are some other areas I was told about that could be climbed but ran out of time to explore them.

Getting There

30811 Horizon Dr, Arkansas City, KS 67005

Horizon Camp and Retreat Center is located 7 miles east of Arkansas City.

From Arkansas City:

Starting from the intersection of the Highway 77 bypass and Madison Avenue, drive 3.2 miles on Madison Avenue, which becomes 292nd Road.

At the fork, turn right (south) onto 296th Road. Drive 2.4 miles.

Turn right (south) onto Horizon Drive at the sign and go 1 mile to camp entrance.

At the far end of the camp area is a primitive camp area. It is accessed by dirt road that runs by the cafeteria. Take it passing all of the obstacle courses until you reach a clearing. The opposite side takes you to a road that drops down and goes through some trees. Follow it until you come to another road that goes off to the left. It will take you to a small rock wall.
