Description

The West Face Bulge is a Bulging Headwall on the west face of Tahquitz. This area of Tahquitz has several classic route like The Step (5.10a), Super Pooper (5.10a) and The Vampire (5.11a). The rock is steep on the left side and is bordered on the right by a large break in the rock (The Trough).

Getting There

Take the climber trail to Lunch Rock. Go around Lunch Rock to the left and up then traverse left along the base to The Trough. To get to the Step and Super Pooper take the larger ledge (FBT ledge) (5.6) located above and to the left of The Trough.

The descent from the top is down the Friction Route. You can also rap Happy Hooker just left of the Vampire.

The beginning of The Flakes

The Flakes 5.11  CA : Tahquitz & Suicide Rocks : ... : Upper Bulge Routes
This is one of my favorite Tahquitz routes, although it does have a few dubious aspects. What I like about it is the exposed position and the neat features it links up. What may detract slightly from its stature is that the pitches are short and its cruxes are very sequency and height dependent.P1: 5.11a. Climb the very thin crack up to the roof. The gear is good but a little technical, mostly thin stopper placements with a small TCU or two. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
