whipping off monaco!

Description

Monaco lies just to the right of Duchess Right (5.7) and climbs a slab to slightly overhung face past 5 bolts to anchors. Originally done with only 4 bolts, which made the crux more intense, but the FA party added the topmost bolt in the late 1990's to make the climb better protected and more accessible for all. It's a little runout at the start and the rating might even be a little sandbag, but hey you're at Josh -- what did you expect?

Protection

5 bolts to anchors (3/8")

I thought this route was really fun. So difficult to grade because the crux involves levitation techniques. Getting to first bolt has just the right amount of pucker factor!! I think the guidebook gives it 11b. Whatever.

Tan Slacks and I did this route a little while back. I agree with Steve-o that it is one of the better in Indian Cove...it has some really cool moves, and the last few moves keep your heart pumping.............

You guys need to get out and explore some more! Monaco is a great route for the immediate vicinty, but the best routes at Indian Cove require a walk into Rattlesnake Canyon IMO. Three stars out of five.

Chris Miller...Steve-o said "this is definately one of the best ive done in the cove." and if I recall I said something similar. Neither said or implied it was "The Best" in the Cove. And is it not all just ones opinion as to what is better or worse? Not to get on my too deffensive of a high horse, but and I do say but, Steve-o and myself DO get out there one hell of allot. And very, very, often.......Rattlesnake Canyon deffinatly has great routes. And as you put it, Monaco is One of the better in the camping area of the Cove........

uh chris i said this was one of the best i have done in the cove, i have done better routes, and yes they were up rattlesnake canyon, and you are right about the 3 outta five stars, but umm its not 11a, its probablly 11c, ive done a few of your FA 11c's and they are much easier than monnaco.

I agree this route is on the harder side of 5.11b for me. Fun though and one of the better routes I've done in Indian Cove as well. I also agree it's harder than some of Chris's 5.11+ FA's I've done, FWIW.
