Description

This is the southernmost of The Sierra Nevada Fourteeners.
It was probably ascended by Native Americans first.
William Bellows made the first recorded ascent in 1864.

Getting There

The easiest approach is from Cottonwood Lakes.
Go west on Whitney Portal Road. Turn left on Horseshoe Meadows Road. Turn right at the Pack Station Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead sign. Park at Horseshoe Meadows Parking lot and take the trail to the lakes.

Cottonwood Lakes ranks as one of my very favorite locations in the High Sierra. Old Army Pass, above Lake 4 in the Cottonwood Lakes, is a spectacular and improbably easy approach to Mount Langley.
