Description

Bull Rock has newer bolted lines on it, as well as a crack climb. The bolted lines here tend to be steep and juggy.

Getting There

Bull Rock is one of the few rocks in South Seas located between the old dirt road and the highway. The easiest approach is to park at the main parking lot, and start walking on the old road. Take the first right turn trail which leads to the rock after only a few feet.

From the little spur trail off the old road, this is the center of 3 routes encounted immediately when reaching the rock. Climb a very steep face through monster-sized jugs. Each jug seems bigger than the last and the left arete is good too! Rap the route from chains with one rope....[more]   Browse More Classics in SD

There are 3 new routes on this rock, all near each other facing the old road through South Seas. Does anybody know the route names or ratings for these climbs? I found them all to be really good additions to South Seas. The bolt placements were smart and the climbing enjoyable.

I felt all three climbs were 5.8 with good rock, but the middle one is poorly bolted and has ground fall potential at the second bolt. 3 stars left, 1 star middle and 2 stars right but all worth doing.

Is this rock part of Squirrel Alley? If not, can I get some more descriptive directions?
