Buckskin Gulch hike

I'm looking to get permits to hike/camp in Buckskin Gulch. Word on the street is that a recent flash flood wreaked havoc on the gulch. I was wondering if anyone had any info on the conditions inside the gulch. Is it too muddy for an enjoyable hike?

I've heard through a friend that the first campsite at the confluence of the Paria is gone. The sandbar was washed out...

The Buckskin is one incredable hike. I would check with the rangers at the Paria visitor center. They would have the most up to date and accurate info.http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/blm_special_areas/natmon/vermilion.html

There are several camping sites at the confluence. Some change with each flood. It does take a bit for the canyon to dry out. One can literally be up to their butt in mud. Which is really no fun especially after it dries. That said I find that hiking up canyon is more fun than down canyon if taking three days.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
