The park's website says, "Rock climbing is limited to specific areas in the park", but I was wondering if anyone had some info as to what that entails. I am camping up there this weekend, and I was wondering if there is any bouldering to be done in or around the park.
Hi Brian, we're working to answer that very question with the Park Supervisor. The current language in their plan is outdated. Sorry I do not have any new information, but for the time being we're being told that bouldering is allowed but chalk and any type of gear is not. Also, there are no currently specified areas where rock climbing is allowed. I know these sound contrary. We're also asked to stay away from any culturally sensitive areas. Park employees will likely tell you that climbing is not allowed altogether. I'll follow up as soon as I know more.
I have a related question. I was in the State Park last Friday taking a rest day from climbing at Red Rock. Hiking out to the Fire Wave there is a prominent tower with two obvious splitter cracks on the wall facing the trail. Have these seen first ascents and is climbing allowed there?
