Borrow gear in Huaraz, Peru

Hey climbing community, my girlfriend and I are traveling through South America and currently spending some time in Huaraz. We want climb for 5 days at Hatun Machay and are in need of climbing gear. We have looked locally and gear is available to rent (but we're kind of dirt-bagging it and trying to save some money). Doest anyone have any gear we could borrow? Highest priority would be rope, harnesses and quickdraws.

Rent a harness, belay plate, and a few lockers then head to the Refugio at Hatun Machay and make friends and offer to be a belay slave. I doubt anyone is going to let you use their gear for any cheaper than you can rent it in Peru (which is pretty dang cheap). The people at the refuge are super nice and friendly so you shouldn't have trouble finding some partners. You can also always boulder because there are a ton of unexplored areas and the refuge has a few crash pads you can use.

Yeah, we figured we will probably just have to take the plunge and rent all the gear - which I'll admit seems to be cheap (for US maybe...) we've been able to sleep in a hostel and eat three hot meals a day for under $20/person in Peru so far! Haha, so to us $30/day for gear rental feels expensive...maybe we should have brought that 3rd duffel bag with all the climbing gear...oh well, lesson learned. Thanks!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
