Anybody have any beta on the North Face of Mt Borah this year? We're trying to plan a 2-day trip starting from Rock Creek, camping at the base of the face, starting early to climb the face and descending via the hiking route (over chicken out ridge). Looks like most of the TRs I've seen have usually go around late Sept and early Oct but no one has conditions in the past year or two... Anybody been up there recently?

Thanks so much!!

You're in luck! I was bored, saw this post, and also curious about the route conditions myself, decided to drive up to scope it out. This photo is from about 2 hours ago.

I know the local guides (SMG) did at least one trip up the North Face in August. That is earlier than most people go but certainly not unheard of.

I haven't done the route but have been looking at it for a while. It looks thin but good. You can see that the face is starting to ice up. The crux will probably be the half-melted traverse to the summit couloir (unless you take the direct route couloir, which involves a bit of 5.6/5.7 rock climbing). That is assuming the summit couloir has snow/ice...if not I imagine that would be a steep and scary choss adventure.

I wish I had time to drive over double springs pass and up Mahogany Creek to get a better look at the current condition of the couloirs.

Here is what the summit couloirs looked like as of July 1:

Good luck! If you go, post a TR and let us know how it goes!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
