Description

The arete looks easy from the ground, but it is slightly overhanging in places, especially near the top where the holds are less obvious (crux). There are multiple lines that can be climbed along the arete.

Location

The top of the Thimble can be reached by 4th class scrambling on the right side of the South Face. The route is located in the gap on the north side of the Thimble next to the Thumb, near the west end of the gap, just east of a juniper tree. It is the arete that goes to the highest point on the Thimble. You can downclimb the 4th class to the south, or rap 75' down the south face from the anchors and then scramble off east or west.

Protection

We only toproped this route although it might be protected with medium-sized gear. There is a two-bolt rappel anchor at the top of the south face that can be used for an anchor if you have a 20-foot sling or a static rope. Otherwise, there are several cracks at the top which will take medium gear and you can sling the highest boulder.
