Pitch 7

Over on Supertopo Don French posted the following:

Hello climbers,

I made some high-resolution time-lapse sequences of two sections of the record setting climb on Wednesday. The hand-off on the king swing is a full resolution sub-set of the other king swing sequence.

This was a test of my new robotic camera mount that automates taking time lapse movies and panoramas, which is described here: http://www.thegadgetworks.com

Check out Han's play by play of the route.

Gear List: Didn't bring any #3 Camalots and just one #2 Camalot and one #1 Camalot, two .75 Camalots, and one .5 Camalot. Then doubles below that. Four nuts, one cam hook, 18 quickdraws, four long runners. One Yates Rocker.

Slow day at work!

What is the Yates Rocker used for? It's a cool device, it's just that I haven't found a precise use for it [yet]

I imagine that the rocker is either to safeguard the leader in the event that the follower falls (like using a Tibloc). Or, for the second to have a belay while climbing with lots of slack from above.

the end is in sight, just a few more miles of copperheads to go!

Hans explains where they use it in his narrative:

Noah's first rope...kinda.

The Rocker is a portable stereo that is ultra light and has a 100 yard range. Blasting AC/DC Yuji was able to keep Hans rockin up the route. Luckily they also had some Rage Against The Machine that kept them cruising through the bolt ladder and up to the top. Hans felt it was a crucial piece of equipment and brought it instead of the #3 camalot.
