I am in Nepal just finished up my trekking and now I am itching to climb. I am heading to India in about a week and was looking at climbing there. Would strongly prefer to sport climb as I don't like to boulder so much. I was looking at badami and it looks pretty promising. One issue is that I have no gear at all since I wasn't planning on climbing. I am going to scope the shops around kathmandu before I leave here for harness/shoes but it looks like I can get them in Delhi or Mumbai. If I could find a partner here I may be able to get more gear otherwise I was just planning on meeting people at the crag.. will there be lots of people there or just a few? Also I will be in India till mid December and could climb any time from mid November till then. Let me know if you or anyone you know will be around!

Flying into Mumbai tomorrow. Should be around badami/hampi in two weeks or less. Got climbing shoes and a harness here in kathmandu as I read that I may be able to rent a rope/crash pad in badami/hampi. If anyone is headed there to climb soon let me know!

I was in badami and hampi in January 2013. There's no gear rental in Badami. You can rent some gear at a little rental shack in Hampi called Tom and Jerry's. They have an odd assortment of pretty manky shoes. Youre definitely best off finding proper shoes before you get to hampi or badami. T&J do have a couple ropes and harnesses to rent out. They were in good shape when I was there. They're not at all popular as most peeps coming to hampi are bouldering.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
