Just received Beckey's new book 100 favorite North American Climbs.

Really nice. Great pictures, topos, anecdotes, information.

Comparable to Rebuffat's 100 finest in the Mont Blanc Massif.

Definitely a classic. One of my new favorites.

Probably excellent...but I see it listed at Amazon anywhere from 49 to 75 bucks hardcover!! Ouch! Not in a climbers budget.

Kai, if you have the time I would love to know which climbs are featured. I looked online and wasn't able to find that information.

I 2nd Eric's request. That would be great!

Here's the list. The book describes (very briefly) another 40 "climbs of note" that aren't listed here.

Wow -- 3 down, 97 to go.
(Ain't gonna happen)

We got this book a few days ago -- beautiful! Charlie's reading it right now, so I have to be patient.

On an whim my sister got it for me for Christmas. I was shocked because I hadn't even heard of it. Its amazing, not sure If I would pay 75 bucks for it...though

You know climbing has become more mainstream when guidebooks bridge the realm of coffee table books!

Nice. Fred has good taste. I've done 24 of those and see dozens more I want to do. Will pick that up shortly and start planning. Curious about his next 40.

Sounds like the ultimate source for 'monday morning quarterback' kind of discussions. Perfect for retired climbers who love a great coffee table sized book to read each evening.

Also have to add this book is impressive. MSRP is $75 but Amazon has it for as low as $43 right now. Considering what the book is I think it's a deal. Big books might not be your thing but for those that buy guidebooks and other climbing related books this more than worth it. It seems much more thorough than other "favorites" books. Lots of details and supplemental info on the margins. Topos seem "all new" and artfully done. They look to be from the same source that did the old poster size El Cap, Half Dome and The Diamond Posters - anyone know the artist? (Edit - Looks like Clay Wadman )

The books sheer size is impressive. It's similar to some medium size Medical Textbooks I've seen.

Any thoughts about the list? Of course any top 100 list is going to be subject to varying opinions, and an opinion from a wanker weekend warrior such as myself isn't going to stand up to someone of Beckey's stature.

Oddest addition to me is Frogland. Nice route, but Top 100 in North America? Really? Epinephrine, Dark Shadows, Birdland, and Crimson Chrysalis all nicer Red Rocks routes?

Oddest omission to me is the West Ridge of Mount Hunter. In the Steck Roper 50 Crowded Classics, Beckey got the first ascent in 1953 I believe, and an absolutely stellar line.

Climb Ohn. Wally

His (Becky's) Favorite climbs. Not THE top 100. Notice a lack of Big Wall stuff and as you point out, classic routes.

That's kinda why I like it. It's his opinion and given his experience, that what makes his favorites fun to read.

Agreed though, Frogland is good but I can't say it would be on my 100 Favs
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
