So I'm heading to Banff for a work thing end of September. I can swindle some time on the back end of my trip and wondering what conditions are usually like up there then. Should I bring my ice gear? Any advice/suggestions would be great. Cheer.

not for ice climbing, no....alpine gear if you want to do some north face glacier stuff....late Sept is usually out of condition for most classic alpine routes...I advise that you focus on rock...I have several hundred long trad routes in and around Banff National Park described on summitpost.org...there are also several 50 North American Classics close by that are easily attainable as well that time of year....

Sept has been the most stable summer month in terms of weather as far back as I can remember....but a trade off for shorter days of course....good luck with your trip

I have climbed water ice on the north face of Athabaska in sept. I would say bring the whole kit and keep your options open.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
