Balanced Rock, as the name implies, is the 40 ft. high bowling pin-like spire perched on the hillside above the western end of the cliff line of Echo Cliffs. The spire is clearly visible from the Mishe Mokwa Trail and is popular with hikers, but infrequently visited by climbers. Balanced Rock offers two routes, one on the north face and the other on its east face. Both routes receive morning sun and afternoon shade. The 1st ascent of the spire was made in 1988 by Allan Gardner, et al.
If you hike in the long way and don't take the short cut you can find a trail that will take you up to it. From the Grotto you can hike West and then head up towards it. Also if you top out on any of the climbs on the main walls you can probably pick up a trail over to it.
