Hey everyone,

Looking for information on trails and sport climbs in Wyoming. Plan to backpack in the area and visit Yellowstone National Park. Maybe some limited trad climbs. Bouldering as well. Excited!! 3 days of adventure.

Any links or descriptions will help. Thanks.

Not a whole lot of climbing in Yellowstone, especially not sport. There are a couple TR bolts hidden in the Hoodoos up by Mammoth, but they're hard to find and not really worth it, IMHO. The majority of the rock in the park is crumbly Absaroka choss and not very conducive to climbing.

HOWEVER, the good news is that the Tetons are just a short drive to the south of Y-Stone, and there you'll find the most pristine granite and gneiss in the country! LOTS of trad in the Tetons....not too familiar with what options there are for sport, though. Also lots of Class 3-4 summits in the Tetons that are far more rewarding than most of the sport climbs I've ever done, even though there's no technical climbing involved (the exposure can be a little nervewracking, though). Middle Teton, South Teton, Buck Mountain, and Teewinot come to mind (some people do bring a rope for the way down on Teewinot).

Both parks have tons of amazing backpacking opportunities. How many nights/miles are you looking to go for? Paintbrush Divide, Hurricane Pass/Alaska Basin, and Death Canyon are some of my favorite trails in the Tetons. In Yellowstone, Electric Peak is a rad overnighter that has a somewhat sketchy peak scramble thrown in! Black Canyon, Pebble Creek, Union Falls, Lamar Valley...there's soooo many good trails out there! :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
