So I have been looking into getting I to mountaineering/snow/ice/mixed... I know Colorado and Utah are close but was wondering if anyone had any info they were willing to give up about az climbing. I am sure GI in the right conditions and time of year there is easy snow on 4 peaks or ice/mixed/snow on Humphreys. Anyone have any beta? stropsa

Humphreys has a beautiful view and can be a really fun winter summit. That being said its pretty much just a big hill, good luck finding anything technical on it. Same goes for all the San Francisco peaks, you can however practice your backcountry ski descents on some pretty fun stuff up there. shotgunnelson

I think you can get ice/snow work in on a blue moon if you try pretty hard. Otherwise "mountaineering" in Arizona is laughable/nonexistent. Panda Express

On the bright side Arizona probably has more climbable days than any other state in the US and crags at low elevations all the way up to nine thousand feet. Sure you won't be swinging the picks much but when you can rock climb everyday it shouldn't make you too sad. shotgunnelson
