Thanks for posting a great read. That story reminds me that you never know what a new partner's experience level is unless you test them. When finding a climbing partner you just have to spend a little time at a crag. I'm not too sure how to evaulate a new backcountry partner. I could show you my certificates from avy courses I've taken but... If I don't get out often then they're worthless!
