Leading the first pitch of Pentapitch so we could traverse over to the ultra classic, Sasquatch in Little Cottonwood Canyon

Well I just got accepted into the graduate program at the University of Arizona. Hopefully I'll still have time to climb on a regular basis, if not I'll just have to make time. I'm coming down there fairly soon after a couple of more weeks of climbing up in the Wasatch here in Salt Lake. I know it's hot as hell in Tucson right now but I was wondering how the weather was up on Mt. Lemmon. Is usually cooler? I don't have a place much longer up here so really need to come down there and get settled in. Please don't tell the climbing season is out!

I'll also be looking for some partners to climb with being that I know absolutely no one in Tucson.

Does anyone on here need a roommate?

Thanks guys

At the anchors.

Slaton,

Depending upon how high up the mountain you go, temps can be in the neighborhood of 20 degrees cooler than in town, all in a 45-minute drive.

There're folks climbing here every weekend. You might check out the Tucson climbing meetup on Meetup.com: http://rockclimbing.meetup.com/151/ There's always something going on, and it's a great way to meet lots of local partners. We don't always post our outdoor climbing plans, so contact any of the organizers for the scoop on where folks are headed.

Alternatively, if you show up at Le Buzz (http://www.lebuzzcaffe.com/) on weekend mornings between 7 and 8, you'll find groups meeting to climb.

Welcome to the desert!

Brigette

Me

Lucky for you some of the best climbing on the mountain is up high. Rap rock, the fortress and the ravens all have great routes for just about any taste in climbing and the temps are very tolerable in right about now.

Before the tyrolean on Sun Ribbon Arete, high Sierras.

Slaton-

There is no non-climbing season in Tucson. You can climb year-round in pretty much perfect temps by going higher or lower on Mt. Lemmon, or chasing the shade or sun. Many Tucson climbers go to the rock gym on Tuesday and Thurday nights, though right now many people are gone for the summer.

Mexican Sunset

It was 59F at the summit parking lot at 9 AM yesterday (on kind of a cloudy morning).

Great. I was worried I was leaving the cool Wasatch for temperatures to hot to climb in. I should be down there in a week or so. I'll be climbing and working out at the gym I'm soon. Maybe I'll hit you guys up once I get down there for some climbing. Thanks for the help.

I'm not a local to Tucson, but this is a topic I'm used to here in the Adirondacks.
Just keep in mind the wildlife closures in the Spring/Summer season (if I recall most of the closures are over at this point). I know we couldn't get up to Rap Rock, The Ravens, or The Fortress because of Peregrine closures when I was in Tucson this May. Check with the Forest Service for the closure information. Enjoy it out there, I had a blast!
