Summit Hut Guide, Hearthstone page. Circa 1980.
Description Large west facing buttress opposite Chimney Rock. (There are two formations across from Chimney Rock. The uphill slabby formation is Friction Rock. The downhill steeper formation is Hearthstone)
Getting There Park as for Chimney Rock. Walk down Catalina Highway until opposite the Hearthstone. Look for an exposed rocky drainage to the left of the buttress. This forms the approach. Drop down into the streambed and head upstream just a bit to get to the drainage. As you approach the wall, trails take off right leading to the base.
