Any Rope Maker Fusing Sheath and Core besides Beal?
|
Beal makes a lot of their ropes as "unicore" now, meaning they are connecting the sheath and core together so even if you cut the sheath all the way around the rope it wouldn't slide off the mantel. Are any other rope makers doing this? I like Beal ropes anyways so I'll probably stick with them, I'm just curious if any other makers are doing this as well. |

Trango is using unicorn technology aswell. |

I think my Edelweiss Performance is unicore. |

Edelweiss does unicore as well (Beal's sister company) |
|
mammut does it on their static ropes and cords although i don't know if they do it on their dynamic ropes |
|
Just wondering, what do you like about the unicore ropes? I've heard mixed reviews. |

I like the extra security against cuts. Red River Gorge has tons of iron deposits and they get super sharp. I've cut pretty deep into a rope falling and swinging across one. My partner saw it and lowered me and didn't tell me until I was on the ground which I thank him for saving me the panic. It doesn't seem to negatively effect the impact forces, so I say why not spend the few dollars more for piece of mind for the piece of gear your life always depends on. |

Unicorn tech is serious stuff. Here's a video, and no I don't work for Beal. |
