after the hard stuff, into cruiser hands.

paddling is my latest passion. Going to make it a point next year to learn some playboating skills to up my boat control but I really love river running/creeking.

Might be a bit before you would want to kayak it but every boater should come float the LOCHSA!!! Catch the runoff at its peak and this river is a big "grand canyon style" rapid day stretch. You can even double dip the lower 10 miles in a day. Then come climb the bouldering wall I just built at ROW Adventures or cruise over the pass to the east side of the Bitteroots.

Growing a winter coat in Red Rock Canyon- December 2013.

Damn, how'd I miss your guys last posts? Guess I haven't been surfing MP forums enough!. ; )

Thanks for that Mountainbuzz link, Nick- wasn't aware of that site. Great info. everyone! Been climbing more than paddling this past month, but dying to go out again, and get moving on learning about swiftwater, and river reading Hope to hear about fellow climber/river rats adventures in the near future for ideas, and inspiration, or to scare the hell out of me. ; /

BTW- Awesome pic, Olaf- Looks intense!

Kinda interesting, been boating off and on for a good chunk of my life with my family in rafts guided and non. Clear creek, the ark, the Colorado, the new, the yak. When I was about 16 they suggested I be a guide but I never felt too into river running. Got guided down the middle yak in Ohio in a kayak after a crash course in rolling, flipped after being held in a wave/ hole and didn't roll back up. Saved by a t rescue before wet exiting. Wasn't psyched after that. Rented a play boat and messed around in a play park and ended up swimming a bit, disheartened. So this summer I needed a job and ended up being a raft guide on the Colorado through glenwood canyon . I had some friends who were pro kayakers and I borrowed a.boat to see if I could teach myself to roll again. Somehow figured it out in a day and did it like 20 times, so I decided to get a cheap boat. Went and played in the local wave, hit my first combat roll then ended up swimming. Kept at it and got my roll figured out in my boat in a couple weeks after plenty of swimming. By the end of the summer I could roll up every time, figured out bracing, my off hand and back deck from both sides. I can boof, front, side, and back surf, flat spin 1080, blunt and did one semi accidental front loop. Pretty fun, though I was warned if I liked climbing I shouldn't start kayaking... I said in was gonna shatter that perception and I have since I've doubled my pitch count this year too. Nothing like a broken back to motivate ya...

Jason, the problem is your just not good enough at boating yet and you haven't been on any multiday trips. Keep at it, and your pitch count will drop to zero.

Hope all's been well in Colorado.

Actually all has been well through the western US eric.
Almost in bishop now. Working on the access fund conservation team has helped my pitch count most (due to all the awesome places, not the lack of hard work, its not a climbing trip like some people mispercieve)100 pitches last month... miss ya man give me a call sometime. Maybe next summer you can help me become a better boater, mostly self taught to this point. I'm still gonna prove ya wrong. Btw where are you at these days, no longer in Montrose hu?
