Hose monster was relatively fat two wks ago - chandeliered 4+/5-ish on the first pitch. Call Desert Rock Sports mondays for updated conditions. Don't know about the other stuff. Be discreet when accessing the hose monster on a weekend - the area around the lodge gets a lot of people wandering around and quite often the LE Rangers will be sending people away from the "seasonally closed picnic areas" that the trail goes through.
What about skiing at LV ski/Lee Canyon? Good snow yet? Is there ice up in that area too? Only been there once, like 15 years ago to ski over Xmas holidays.
A couple of my friends have been snowshoeing the Bristlecone loop trail lately which is fun, and scenic, there's a decent free sledding area that's popular in the Meadows off Hwy 156 (north side of 156; 5-10 minutes before you reach Bristlcone trailhead, and/or Ski Resort area) and there's backcountry skiing going on if our tiny local resort isn't exciting enough, or not in your budget.
Echo falls is in fat, was up there on saturday. I think Mary Jane Falls was in earlier in the season, but collapsed and is now running water with a little bit of thin ice.
GriGri, any recommendations on good backcountry skiing areas?
The road from Lee to Kyle canyons has some good touring. Even if you go on a wknd, it shouldn't be too crazy once you get 100m off the road. For more interesting bc stuff, park at the resort and take your pick of the lines. Seems to be pretty typical continental snowpack, so take the usual precautions.
