Access Issue: East Humboldt Wilderness
Details
This area is in the East Humboldt Wilderness. Learn more about it at its web page fs.usda.gov/detail/htnf/abo….
Description
Angel Lake is a alpine lake situated high in the East Humbolt Range at over 8000 feet in elevation. The rock here is similar in nature to what you would find in the neighboring Ruby Mountains. Some surrounding walls and boulders have immacculate and hard granite, While other formations contain lesser quality metamorphic stone. A glacial tarn with lots of opportunity.
There has been previous exploration here by climbers and I will comment on the one existing route I observed: Bolting tactics seem to be convenience based and of poor form.
Other attractions would be provided in the form of trout fishing, camping and as well the scenic drive itself. This appears to be a popular (easy access) and family type area. Also, even though the lake is natural and of glacial cirque remains; it has been modified with a dyke for water storage many years ago. These factors slightly detract from the enjoyment of the location in my opinion.
