DescriptionThe AMC Boulder, named for the Arizona Mountaineering Club, is the second formation reached on the main climber's trail that heads up to the peak itself. The most obvious feature is the big overlapping flake of the route, Varicose, on the southern side. There are a number of good routes here and eyebolts for belaying and rappelling on the summit. Getting ThereHike up the tourist trail from the visitor's center (looks like a big smooth dirt golf cart path). At the sign marking the climber's trail headed for the Peak, turn left and head up. The trail curves back left (south) towards Loafer's Choice Slab and the AMC Boulder. Reunion is located on the crystal covered face just left of the Varicose crack. You can start from the ground in the middle of the face (harder) or start on the arete to the left, moving up and right to the first bolt.The route is pretty runout, and has only two bolts, the first of which is quite a ways off the ground. If you choose lead this, be very careful and don't fall!
