Close up of Falcon Rock as seen from the road.

Description

Falcon Rock is probably the largest single formation on the east side of the highway, and is easily visible from the road. The rock actually consists of three distinct climbing sections: Refrigerator Crack area (lower left or northwest side of the rock), Peanut Butter area (upper east or northeast side of the rock), and the Hole in the Wall area (the prominent west-facing wall with the twin white streaks). The longest routes are on the Hole in the Wall Face.

Getting There

There are two ways to reach Falcon Rock. The most direct is to hike straight up the north trail which will take you to the base of the Hole in the Wall area. It's harder to find and a little wetter than the south trail. You can also climb the south trail until your reach the Twin Towers. Skirt up the left side of the towers and look for a faint trail heading due north. Follow the trail to the top of Falcon Rock.
