Aiders without spreader bars?

Planning on RNWF HD and The Nose this fall. Seems like the metolius pocket aiders would be ideal for RNWF as we will try to free or French free as much as possible.

On the nose, will I hate myself, or will my feet hate me, if I choose the weight savings of the pocket aiders over the Yates version?

I've had experience with the Yates style, not the metolius ones yet. I'm also looking into the Yates speed aiders which are a touch smaller

Metolius pocket aider are the bomb! The only probem I have with them is the opening faces down so they have the habit of coming out whilst free climbing. I bought a cheap-o hobby button punch and solved the problem. I also used some cord for an extra grab/gear loop.

It's amazing how nice it is to have them compact and out of the way - I feel like I free a lot better not seeing my aiders, and having them snare on evreything. I also like the ladder-style as opposed to the alternating steps. The pocket amazingly does not get in the way.

Yes they do look amazing. Are they two thin/lack enough support and comfort for a route like the nose? We plan to free everything that is 11- or easier. Also plan to put the follower on speed stirrups when jugging.

have you tried speed stirrups? they can become a cluckerfuck nightmare when the rope eventually twists around your legs and you can't get your feet out so easy. If you're an expert jugger then they are great. If you're tangle magnet, forget it.

As for the metolius on the nose - perfect

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
