Suzi leads Aqua Negro.

Description

Route Name: Agua Negro. Bolted perfectly for a 5.8 climber. Steep but plenty of holds and solution pockets. Several variations possible. This is probably the best quality climb at Texas Canyon. There is a belay station mid climb. After that the climb is 5.0.

Location

Center of east wall of The Canyon. Obvious water grove. Short oak tree at the base. Go straight up left of the oak tree.

Protection

Quickdraws, bolted

Is this route also reffered to as Rt C-1?

Rt-C1 was an old designation that I made until I got with Loomis and he gave me the first ascent name. This site does not work with routes that do not have names. There are many of these at Texas Canyon and so they are not yet on this site.

Was out at Texas Canyon over the weekend... Seemed a few bolts for Agua Negro were missing?

CONDITION REPORT: THE FIRST BOLT AND THE ANCHOR ARE MISSING FROM "AQUA NEGRO." The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bolts are still in place.

Frenchy750...actually, "Aqua Negro" is missing just the 1st bolt and the anchor. However, as the 1st bolt WAS fairly high, it just seems like more than one bolt has gone missing. If you insist on climbing "Aqua Negro" a couple strategies are:

1. Climb "Itsy Bitsy Spider" (to the left of Aqua Negro) and use its ring anchors (with your own gear!) and the last bolt on "Aqua Negro," as a directional, to TR "Aqua Negro." This seems a bit unorthodox because you climb a harder climb in order to TR an easier climb, but it works.

2. If you insist on leading "Aqua Negro," climb "Itsy Bitsy Spider," clipping the 1st two bolts. Move right and sling the large knob to the right. Continue up to the 2nd bolt on "Aqua Negro." A double length runner on the 2nd bolt of "Itsy Bitsy" is helpful, or once the knob of slung, just remove the draw from the 2nd bolt. Continue up "Aqua Negro" using the three remaining bolts and the anchor for "Itsy Bitsy Spider."
