All work and no play...

Any huge disadvantage to using 17cm (longer) quick draw slings? It was all the store had in stock...

meh, not really. just a slightly longer fall. its far more likely that i'm wishing that draw i'm about to clip is a bit longer rather than being shorter.

At the BRC

I usually prefer the longer draws. I have noticed that they are more flexible and often the draw has rotated so that the spine lies against the rock and the gate of the clipping biner points out. Not sure this matters.

I would avoid using them for the first few bolts if you might fall or for the first bolt over a ledge. But otherwise, sure, they are fine. They will help cut down on drag better compared to shorter draws. Some long draws are harder to clip though, so you may want to play with it in the store.

Ooops...

Like people said, mostly advantages, like sometimes being able to clip from a lower and better stance.

The new Petzl Spirits; I have 4 of the 12 cm for the first few bolts (nice to have two on each side of my harness) and the other 9 or so are all 17 cms.

That's only true if the draw is already hung. Just sayin'
