SOOOOO I take it there is no Cody Icefest? And its probably frowned upon by the locals? I was considering meeting some friends there this year...

Karma is a deadly force. No more dry tooling clinics at the Island in Shoshone Canyon.

Here's a more detailed article from our local online news source. This guy has been a total disgrace to our community for a very long time...

Mr. Southfork,
I owe you an apology. Reading your posts last year concerning the ice fest I just figured you were just one of the biggest pricks on the planet. Obviously you had good reason for your point of view.

Now after reading this it makes me sick that this guy misused funds for personal gains that should have went to SAR teams around the state. And to know he continued to try and raise money for an origination that didn't exist to fund himself is appalling. I hope they throw the book at him and he loses everything if convicted.

Thank you for bringing this to light as I'm sure others will think twice about funding this guys personal expences.

Mike Mu: Rule #1 Don't be a jerk.

I stumbled upon this while poking around the Lander climbing and thought it was a really interesting read. I liked the different articles. Calm down buddy..

From a personal perspective the Judge in Park County is not going to be very sympathetic. His Lawyer will have to throw a hail mary to keep his ass out of prison. But anything is possible with pleas, bailouts, etc.

very interesting but disappointing article. I was the AAC Section Chair for ten years and our Section supported, donated to, and volunteered at the CICF for several years. it was fun, quaint, and much more enjoyable to me personally than the big show in Ouray. (although I heavily support that one too). but I'll reserve any judgement or ill-spirited comments on this matter or the legal aspect. I prefer to allow the law to work out the details, and Im sure someone will post them here. bummer, because it would appear that nothing good is going to come out of the SAR situation, regardless of who or how.

I notice down this list that Foote is advertising for the 2016 Cody Ice Fest.

Wow! The guy has an interesting psyche.

Todd-

I have been raised to say nice or say nothing.

So THANK YOU for your post.

We have now received a very generous donation that will pay for all of the guide fees, food and lodging at the 18th annual Cody Ice Climbing Festival on February 12-15, 2016.

Peace, love and happiness to go climbing more.

Wow? Do they make meds for this condition? Bland denial of responsibility, the seemingly revealing admission of being "spread too thin..." and then there's the overall abusive overreaction to criticism that stoops to rather personal slights on Todd Cozzins' being. Sort of adds to a frantic evasive scramble.

And to go up against Todd Cozzins? THE MAN? I mean, he's probably a better ice climber at 51 than the rest of us ever dreamed of being. C'mon.

It keeps getting better and better, even for a storm in a teapot.

Actually, I suppose we should give the guy the benefit of the doubt...after all it's all still up in the air legally: let them figure it out.

I'm just going to go climb and shut my mouth. Life is much easier that way.

What a shitshow. A guide drops a client at clinic due to "inattentiveness".

Weird that the article headlines "casualty" but it doesn't sound like that is how this story ends.

"A person killed" is not the only definition of "casualty"...

Amazing developments here. The organizer tried to show Metanoia without the Godfather of ice climbings (Jeff Lowe) permission or fees, advertised it on his website, and gets busted, lies about it and then this happens. Only this man would stiff a legendary climber in a wheelchair. Very sad to say the least.

Just like 20 years ago when I worked for you thank you for always making me smile, laugh and enjoy life.
Please contact Connie Self the producer at the Jeff Lowe Movie for the correct info.
Have you seen Metanoia or own a copy? As per license agreement to the DVD, it clearly states it cannot be shown or viewed to large groups, only private use!
Therefore, CICF contacted them on January 4th to have Jeff personally attend and show the movie in high definition digital. With his recent illness of pneumonia Jeff cannot travel nor attend #18CICF and taking into consideration the licensing fee of several thousand dollars, Sunday night only having 50-55 climbers stay for dinner and movie we canceled for February 14, 2016 @ 730pm.
We are trying to make plans for a later date to show the movie and give it the attention and crowd it deserves and God willing Jeff in better health he can attend then. I will let you know the date if we can make it happen.
Also, the accident was just that an accident. Two friends, one giving instructional advice, NOT a guide, these two have climbed together in past and yes a human error was made by not tying the safety knot on the end of the rope. A mistake made by many unfortunately. Thank fully Gary only suffered a broken ankle. He is alive and well and already out of the hospital.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
