Thanks everyone for the thoughtful and cordial responses. I guess the title of the thread served its purpose by eliciting numerous responses. |

Morgan Patterson wrote: Yes.. more than enough. The choppings are isolated incidents these days and I would also note there are undeveloped multipitch cliffs in the state.Nothing "isolated" about the recent choppings in MA.... Seems a certain somebody just took his antics across state lines again. He has admitted to such... |

There is also good climbing in Monson and the Sturbridge areas of MA which are convenient to Springfield. Some access and approach conundrums but worth exploring. Monson has routes in excess of 100 feet tall. You can also score yourself a Ken Nichols sighting as he climbs there all the time. |

Yeah, its been a pretty interesting and unique gig. Pretty remarkable actually. Psyched to get home soon and gorge on some protein! But I will miss the primary form of entertainment here: yak vs. dog fights...... |

But I will miss the primary form of entertainment here: yak vs. dog fights...... So many amazing aesthetic peaks nearby that never get climbed because they are only 22,000' and get overlooked by one particular 29,000' peak just up the valley. Below are some shots I took of some examples (if the attachment works).Man CT has changed since I moved! haha |
|
Yeah - thought I'd change it up a bit. Unclimbed lines on most of those peaks pictured - and some peaks still remain unclimbed entirely.......and this is one of the busiest parts of the Himalaya. |

Nick Weinberg wrote:Is there a way to ethically and legally put him out of business????Ethically, no he's a loony bin. Legally, yes. Read up on Ward Smith and Ken... Ken is in all practical sense holding the Ragged Mountain Foundation hostage to replacing their historical fixed gear by the constant threat that he will show up and vandalize the cliff, yet oddly enough they still allow him to climb on their private property. They could, reinstate the restraining order on him and replace the gear if they wanted to... then when he was caught on the property by persons, hunting cameras, etc RMF could bring charges as the WMCC did to Ken for trespassing and chopping on their property. Hunting cameras were used successfully to protect other CT crags that were chopped once... |

Nick Weinberg wrote:Is there a way to ethically and legally put him out of business????There's legal stuff in place, but catching him is the tricky part. Additionally, I don't know that the court order applies across State lines. Someone more familiar might have more detailed info. |

Its not as adventurous climbing as other places but the climbing is great (amazing cracks). The locations are beautiful if you look at them from the right angle and trap rock is awesome. I've climbed many others places in NE after learning the ropes on CT trap rock and I've never climbed anything like it. I've been away from the CT climbing scene for 2 years now but always make sure to bring the rope when I go visit my folks. I kinda miss it. |

Is the nesting closer over At West Rock ? can we climb more than 15' pebbles yet?
The least climbed wall in the east? Why? No Bolts? Troy S, didn't know, Now I've changed that. West Rock Ridge or West Rock of south-central Connecticut, with a high point of 700 feet (213 m), is a 7-mile (11 km) long trap rock mountain ridge located on the west side of New Haven Connecticut . The ridge forms a continuous line of exposed cliffs visible from metropolitan New Haven and points west. West Rock Ridge is part of the narrow, linear Metacomet Ridge that extends from Long Island Sound near New Haven, north through the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts to the Vermont border. DM Incoming......It will read mostly like what Ive posted before and yes A question troy, you don't have to look beyond the avatar, if you don't like what I post. I have respect for you, but would appreciate it, more, if you say something nice or nothing at all. I don't care what you or anyone who plays this game of YoYo, thinks.about what I post. It is all good, Your post portrays you as a ......... unwilling to look at the quality of the choss that I post? So I'm equally unsympathetic.to your concerns. I see you clip bolts, I would very much like to see all the rock that I post bolted into submission. Can you help me in that goal? I have very little invested, & would be glad to pass the FA credit to you or any one. Wishing you safe sends & safer descents Michael Schneider AKA: Suburban Roadside/ |

Michael, you need more sleep bro. I suggest 10 to 20 drops of some western mass green dragon. |

It a nice way of telling me TGFO, buit done with a nice tone. Thank you, Mobes, yes , you gnow what I need & I'll look for that serum. Do you know if can I go to Mass for the recreational Yet ? They had said that recreational sales would start, be available in June. Then, when I checked at the beginning of July, i was told "The End of the summer" . . . . ? For all who shake their heads in disbelief (SMHIDB) It turns the screws to post what I do. it leaves every one who crowds into the popular areas, to have to question, : if he can find stuff, that looks like that, What can I find, if I hike out past that? So as much as it makes out to be just a boob I assure you , that after a long time at this, The stone I post is clean hard and often hard as nails to climb, I invite anyone, to come & check out anything that Ive posted, With the exception of The only un-worthy, way to to short to bother with, that sits In a private yard where horses graze. The stuff that is posted, back a page. And with that Good Night! |

I thought Ragged in CT was pretty awesome. Traprock feels amazing on the hands IMO, probably my favorite kind of rock to climb on. |
