The low elevation, and sunny aspect ice is 3 - 4 weeks behind schedule this year. Canmore Junkywards, Weeping Wall, Balfour Wall, Cascade Falls, Whiteman Falls, Field, etc. are not in yet. It has been too warm down low. Haffner ice main flow was barely climbable on 14-Nov-2015. In general the coming of the ice season is late.

Add several local guiding company Facebook pages to your feed for beta. I feel people are posting less often on Gravsports these days, which is a shame. There is also nothing to do yet this year, which is a contributing factor!

We recently received a good dump of snow, so the avalanche conditions are shutting down a lot of climbs already. It is a good season to go drytooling and get drunk.

Thank you Steven that was very helpful. I think I'm just gonna save the 12 hour drive and get drunk and dry tool here in montana haha

Any guesses to if Curtain Call will be in around the first week of December? Or any difficult ice/mixed routes not too far from Canmore?

Eh, it's slowly getting here, as it's finally cold enough for the ice to form well. Keep following Gravsports. You will definitely find something to do by then if you show up!

There are a lot of difficult mixed routes within 2hrs of Canmore. If you want to go cragging or hang upside down in a cave, you will always have options. Stanley Headwall requires good avalanche conditions. You can consider going there if "Considerable" in the alpine if you're smart and know your avalanche dragons, and go there on the right day.

Steven, are you originally from Ukraine or have roots from there? Just wondering because of the ko in the end of your last name. I am originally from there...

Anyway, I think we would like to do all sorts of stuff. Long, short cragging, whatever. Never been there and would love to get as much mileage as possible and see what BIG ice routes are like. Already have tickets. Going with open mind and will be on the cautious side regarding the avy danger :)
