Any news on the Android version? Would like to check it out for the stuff in PA.

Ok, I didn't catch on to the double-tap trick. When you do it, cliff photos come out in landscape mode (at least the ones I tried) Moreover, once double-tapped, the photos become zoomable by screen gestures, so the capability is much closer to the Nears App than I said. I don't have time now, but I will edit my previous comments tonight.

The Next Ascent app is a really awesome app and has a lot of features the Gunks app does not. There are at least 7 different views for one and that is not including a huge library of areas around the US that is being made. By definition the Gunks App can never compete with that.

As you can see from the pics above the topos are awesome.

I think what people are saying about the descriptions is unfair too. There are only a few descriptions that are not complete so I think it is unfair judging this app by a few descriptions when most are pitch-by-pitch and as complete as any print guidebook. Also as said before they are evolving them (just like the Trapps App did).

Also the Next Ascent navigation provides actual Google maps. So you can see how close you are to the actual chapters and in relation to the cliff sections. Then you just tap the area on the map and Poof it takes you to that area. I think that is way easier than plugging in GPS to something else and going in and out of the app like the Nears App.

I do like the Gunks Apps route log but I can't imagine it would be too hard for Next Ascent to add a feature like that.

I think it is unfair that people are judging a few descriptions when the Gunks App had no descriptions when it first came out. Clearly both these apps are an ongoing process.

I like the search function and agree that that would be nice to add.

I like Next Ascent's chapter index so it is neatly organized into sections of the cliff not one continuous table like the Nears App.

Overall I like both apps but I would choose the Next Ascent guidebook app because again, they give me free guides with it and I am a dirtbag climber.

John l,

Thanks for asking. I do not have an exact date yet as we are still finishing it up. My hopes are very soon as we have had a ton of requests for Android for our apps.

I can say we have at least 10 different areas in PA in the works. Certainly several free ones too.

My friend Joe Forte has taken some amazing airial shots at a few areas this year in PA and I'm psyched to start working on some.

Any areas in PA you would specifically like to see?

Thanks so much
Rob

Very cool, Rob. A guide to the Delaware Water Gap would be most helpful to me since resources for that area aren't super extensive.

Yes, I think you are right; there is a substantial potential problem looming. This is another discussion of course, and I don't want to hijack this thread with it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
