Rope on Braille Book (do not use)

Hey everyone,

There is a red rope stuck up on the second pitch of Braille book after a pretty bad accident yesterday. PSA not to use it or assume it's fixed. It took a gigantic factor 2 whipper directly onto the belayer.

Thanks for the heads up. Any more info on the accident? Is the leader OK?

She is in the hospital and alive. Don't know if it's my place to say too much more.

Since FF2 falls are pretty rare it definitely would be interesting to know what happened.

Climbed it on 11/1
The red rope is in a pile at the top of P1

Hi all, this is her partner. Thanks for starting the thread in the main forum, I'm still not the most familiar with forum usage on Mountainproject either...

On top of using his gear, Chris and others assisted in rescue, got her to the ground, and comforted her until YOSAR showed up. Thank you so much. You helped save her life.

Anyway, she is doing much better now. Needed surgery to fuse a couple vertebrae, but she's got feeling in both legs, good movement in one, and limited in the other. Could start PT as early as next week!

If you have the rope, please contact me, I would like to get it back. Chris is right, please please PLEASE do not use that rope, it is not usable after that fall.

If you want more details, please contact me. She's at a hospital in the peninsula, so if you're close and want to visit I can let you know hospital/room.

And, if you're interested in details of the fall, I'd much rather discuss them privately than publicly. Some may not really want to read about it...

Ben... thank god she survived relatively intact.

We engage in one tough sport, where mistakes can kill you.

But rest assured, We do like to know all the gory details.

That way we can learn how to not repeat the same error.

Every thing in its own time.

I too would be interested in details for the sake of not wanting to repeat them again.

Although it'd interesting to hear the details, I imagine there's not much new to hear. Place good gear off of the belay. If that is not possible, don't fall. Unless there was some catastrophic gear failure, I doubt there is much more to it than this.

Glad to hear that she is doing relatively ok. Good luck with the recovery.

Using a draw on the belay if nothing else is possible. Maybe even having the belayer hang 10' below the anchors.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
