Petzl Freino for GriGri
|
Before we begin, I know there's cheaper ways to redirect a rope. |

Expensive, but works as intended. |

My daughter, who is rather small/light, really likes it. Her original one was stolen, along with her Grigri, and she now has another of both. |

I think it's best application is lowering on top belay. No need to have another redirect point on your anchor. |

YES! buy it. Love mine and have been using it for years. |

Expensive and heavy, use mine for rigging.. I do like clipping the redirect spur onto the harness instead of having to unlock the autolock on the main biner. |

This keeps the system, strong, safe and closed and still achieves the goal of lowering through a redirect if you don't have a Freino. |

I know you acknowledged there are better ways, but if you're trying to do what I think you are, I really like using an ATC guide with the technique shown. I feel like not enough people (especially at the ice park) know this method. |

Still on the fence. |

Clip the redirect to your shelf, if using bolted anchors you can clip the redirect directly to one of the bolts. If using an extended masterpoint, tied off to trees for example, you can use a split loop bfk. Many ways to skin a cat. |

I was referring to lowering with a gri gri using a separate carabiner for the redirect, not using the Petzl freino. Take the rope out of the redirect before you belay your climber, whether it is a separate carabiner or the freino redirect. |

I've had the Freino for awhile and have been pleased. The price is steep but the extra point of friction is perfect for general rope control. |
