Bad belayer....

Pretty sure he pulled a piece? |
|
Same thread going on over at ST. The conclusion there was there is a piece of gear that pulled and that was the cause for the long fall. Can't see it personally, but then again I haven't tried to zoom in and look for it. |
|
You would have punched the belayer in the face for keeping your ass off the deck after ripping a piece out..... |
|
The leader had piece of gear next to their right foot that came out. One can see the rope change direction as they move up (18-19 seconds). The next piece down that appeared to hold was approximately eight feet below. So the leader had about 11 feet of rope out. Thus a 22 foot fall plus rope stretch of a 2-3 feet, plus he pulled the belayer up 2-3 feet. So all told not a bad belayer but one lucky boy. |

no harm, no foul |

what is the title of the video? |

This was "Weekend Whipper" on Rock And Ice. |

OH, I didn't know he was lead climbing... I can see his gear now. |

I'd buy him a beer. |

This looked like fine belaying to me. :) |

Jake Jones wrote: I'm gonna go the other way. I think the belayer should punch the climber for scaring the shit out of him by placing a shit piece and falling off a 9. I don't always fall off 5.9, but when I do, it's on solid gear. You should take it a step further...... I don't always fall off 5.9, but when I do I make sure to pitch off at the top of the route and pull some gear making sure I come within 2' of the ground. Holleeee shit that guy is lucky. |

I have climbed eagle falls and the rock there isn't the best for pro in the first place it's kinda fragile. Glad everyone is ok and this happened the weekend after I was there. |
