Vegas forecast looks grim. How wet has it really been? Has everything gotten soaked or just back in the canyons? Just trying to get an on the ground report. Thanks.

.5 inch in last hour according to NOAA. Radar covers whole of Red Rock.

I work as a climbing guide in Red Rock which means I keep a very close watch on the conditions during/after rain. I need dry conditions to make a living. I've gone out to assess conditions several times over the last several days.

It is REALLY WET out there. Please DO NOT CLIMB until the rock dries out. It could take several days to dry out. Unfortunately, I've seen climbers on the rock and climbers heading out between rain showers as if all is well.

If you see climbers out when they shouldn't be, educate them in a polite manner on the local ethics. Once a hold breaks off, it's gone forever. Seems pretty simple to me...

The below link is the weather gauge at the visitor's center. Obviously weather van vary from canyon to canyon and cliff to cliff, but it is damn wet out there today.

Standing water all over the place , washes are just drenched an I'm pretty sure a mini water fall was coming down the the wall next to sandstone quarry's parking lot.

Saw people on The Panty Wall , Tuna and Chips , Cannibal Crag , and people on/at Big Bad Wolf / Physical Graffiti. I'm sure you could have pulled over just about anywhere in the park and found climbers without walking too far but these were just the two areas I was taking pictures at today. My only footwear were my raggity old sandals otherwise I would have walked over tried to educate them (You would hope they weren't local)....but to some extent the "were not from here and didn't know that " excuse is wearing thin with me personally. While I'm sure they are people who genuinely don't know I'm sure an equal slice of the pie amounts to "Whatever , I'm climbing anyway"

It is, isn't it?

BTW, here's that picture I saw on FB that I told you about while you and your partner were racking up at the Oak Creek pullout yesterday.

Hope you had an enjoyable climb - thanks for caring!

But it's a perfect exact representation of 12 hours prior to your climb. LOL!

Locals: Given the current conditions, will the rock be climbable by Thurs or Friday? thursday for the first pullout, Friday for Juniper Canyon.

Edited because I typed the days wrong initially

Misrepresentation or not, it's still wet..

Why is it always a debate?

I just saw this article tweeted by Rock and Ice talking about climbing the day after rain and breaking rock off Dream of Wild Turkeys. No mention that they shouldn't have been out on wet rock even though they were out with people training to be guides...

Jer, about DWT...that was my first thought also. Collection spot, dirt, vegetation (read sponge), big block and some percolation. Classic recipe just about anywhere I can think of.

Years ago, I rode a flake like that when we did a new route on the north face of Bugaboo. My friend had just lead the pitch and you had to traverse by liebacking/undercling this huge flake. I had the day sack and weighed more. Halfway through, the flake came loose with me holding on. Somehow I had the presence to cut loose and push off. I pendulumed about 30 ft. and ended up in the air. He lowered me to where I could get back on and I climbed some thin cracks to get back on route.

From what I can read on the internet, it rained steady Saturday (rain gauge readings to 0.41") and gully washed on Sunday. Course that flooding was more dramatic but the gauge only read 0.13" at the same site near Red Rocks.

Often it will rain more in the canyons. The humidity has been kind of seasonally high both Monday and Tuesday.

I was going out for sandstone Wednesday and postponed till maybe Friday. YMMV

Anybody check the conditions this afternoon? Out from Maine this week, hiked out Pine creek canyon Monday and obviously damp still, was hoping to get out tomorrow, but with cooler temps and not so low humidity wondering if it isn't drying out as quick as usual.

We went up to the Ironman wall this morning (thursday)and decided against climbing. The ground was very wet with lot's of standing water. The rock on the approach was noticeably wet everywhere and Trundle wall had several very obvious wet streaks.

Despite this we saw a number of parties choosing to climb. Panty Wall was the typical scene. But we also saw a number of parties who also decided it was too wet to climb.
