Vapor v fit

Just bought a pair of these and now I'm second guessing my size decision. They felt real tight in the store but not painful. Took em out this weekend and the pain was just about unbearable. They created so much pressure on the outside of my big toenail it felt like someone was ripping it off with a pair of pliers. I have a pair of force x in size 10 1/2 and downsized to a 9 1/2 for the vapors. What are your guys expierencess with these shoes and how they fit? Will the break in around the toes? I feel the rubber is too stiff in that area to allow much room for expansion.

I have an older model of the Vapor V, bought in 2013. Not sure if the fit is still the same.
I wear a 41 street and sized down to 40 for the Vapor V, and it is snug but not overly tight. In my experience there was not very much stretch, maybe just a little bit of breaking in around the toes.

I too have a VV from 2013. My street shoe size is US Men's 7. My VV is 39.5. Just nice for cragging, gym but not all day long routes. Tight enough for good performance but not painful unless I keep them on for 2+ hours straight.

I have a pair of the older pattern ones. I had to size them at a 43, up significantly from my normal Sportiva fit of 40.5 or 41 for that style shoe. My street shoe is 10.5. Anyway, the Vapors were still pretty tight and uncomfortable until I got them resoled. I still need to work my heel into the heel cup pretty well or the toe is painful. I only wear them for single pitch sport routes.

Thanks for responses guys, maybe I'll just keep them and pray they break in. The left fits superbly so if they do stretch to a half size we'll be in business on the right foot. Anybody ever throw shoes in the oven? Maybe heating up the rubber a bit could aid the break in?

I would advise against putting them in the oven. No direct experience, but The heat could be bad news for the glue holding the rubber and rand on. I have had shoes that I left in a really hot car that started delaming.

As for the fit, pretty much all the scarpas I have are size 41(instinct vs, old style techno, and now the vapor v's) Which is about 1/2 size below my street size (8.5) and the fit is great. The one pair I went down a full size on to 40.5, feroce's, I never wear cause they hurt and don't climb no better.

I have the last gen VV, the toe area is synthetic and it it did "form" to my toes better with time. I felt the stretched about 1/4 to 1/2 size. I'm a size 9 street shoe, had them in 42 and the heel was too baggy. 41.5 seems about right in the new ones, still have some dead space at the bottom of the heel though.

They're unlined leather, take a hot shower with them on and the wear them until they dry. I did that with mine.

Thanks Andrew. I'll give that method a try. Way more low impact then the oven idea

Note this about toe area on last gen VV.

I believe the 15 vapor is still the same "micro suede" synthetic, so I still would only expect it to "mold" to your toes. Rear is definitely leather on the 15.

I tried on the new model the other day and it seemed that the I had a bit less knuckling of my big toe than on the last gen and just a smidge more room for my pinky toe. It let me go down a half size to get rid of some the baggy heel. Enough of a difference for me to not bother re-soling the last gen and just pick up a pair of 15s when my current ones die.

The old VaporV has a narrower toe box and and fits differently, mainly stiffer, compared to this year´s update.
The new VaporVs. feel more comfortable and have a better heel. I have two pairs. One in my street shoe size for crack climbing and one half a size below street shoe size for a more aggressive shoe. In street shoe size I can actually walk around with that shoe in the gym. Half a sizer smaller is also pain free. I don´t believe in painful shoes anymore these days. Too old for that shit!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
