hey guys, i'm currently looking for a course of multiple days on the mountain and i'd like to have your toughts to guide me! So first of all... Denali or rainier? Or whats in your opinion the best place to start and learn from the beginning? And do you have experience with a particular business with a good price/qualty ratio?
Another question , id like to do mount whitney at tge end of may beginning of june with the little experience i have to you think its safe to go there ? I know the basics of how to walk with crampon, how to use an ice axe, how to tie in to a rope and how to get out of a crevace using prussik but thats about it!

And i got a lot of question about equipment how tu use it and mountaineering stuff in general so if anyone wants to be some sort of a mentor it would be really appreciated!

Thanks a lot ,

Olivier, where do you live? That will be a big influence on your choice unless cost is no object. Denali does not strike me as a sensible place to start your mountaineering training. Personally, I did my training with Yamnuska based in Canmore, Alberta. They did a good job at a reasonable price. As to Whitney, I haven't climbed there, but in general, I would recommend staying off a serious objective with your (in)experience level unless you are part of a guided party. Consider joining the AAC or ACC, or any other local mountaineering oriented group, and try to take part in activities suitable to your experience and skill level, so as to get some mileage under your belt and to start to gain an understanding of what it is that you don't know yet and where you might learn it.

I'm a Yamnuska Graduate also. Best thing I ever did. similar to Outward Bound or Nols courses here in the states. But more Mountaineering based. That was 1992, still going up!

Alright so yamnuska would be good one? Do you learn all the mountaineering techniques? Glacier walking crevace rescue etcetc?

And also, just a little specification : i have done mountain hiking already like mount washington and kilimanjaro so for the altitude and cold problem i got a good experience on how to deal with those and how to just live on the mountain.
