Top Rope Solo; toprope solo; tr solo

Ditch the backup knots AND self belay hands free!

Use a fixed single rope. (Backup lines are like gumby thongs to tr soloists in the know.)

It is possible to use a variety of ascenders in the demostrated configuration. Pictured are a microcender as primary (toothless mechanical prusik allows some slippage to reduce dynamic loads and can be moved down the rope easily with one hand). Micro traxion as secondary (light, low friction).

Hold primary up with makeshift chest harness for zero slack. Extend primary with full strength cord so that, in the event of failure or slippage of the primary, the secondary does not jam against the primary (lesson learned from experience and a mangled secondary).

The extension on the primary also aids in transitioning to a descending device https://www.mountainproject.com/v/112146813

TR solo only! Do not try to rope solo (i.e. lead) with this setup!
