Does anyone know where I could find a guide book for Zion National Park? I cant seem to find on anywhere that focuses on Moonlight buttress and other big wall climbs in that area. I was also wondering where I could find more info on Kolob Canyon. I went backpacking through there over to Hop valley and was amazed by all the possible lines there. Why isn't there more info on the area. It seems like there could be huge routes put up in that area. Down the La verkin creek trail it doesn't seem like theres been any established routes.

There are lots of new long climbs in Kolob that have gone up with almost no fanfare the last few years. I guess people want the area to remain a hidden gem and not spray all over the Internet. Get up there and have an adventure. If you're looking to climb at the Moonlight grade you shouldn't have too many problems finding great lines in Kolob.

Thanks George for the recommendation. I saw that book and was hesitant to buy it being that it seem like it was heavy on the free climbing. I was looking for a book most focused on the big walls. does the super topo go in depth to the sport climbs there. But I just ordered it though! But that makes sense Andy, I didn't realize the park was so crowed until I visited this past April. When I visited I walked over to the base so just I could just look at the route and possibly see if there was any booty laying around.

But its no surprise why Moonlight would be popular.. right off a bus route and over the river. While any routes down the La Verkin creek trail would take at least 3 hours to get too. I can see why people want to keep Kolob a solitary setting. It was perfect when I was there.. nobody was around. I did the narrows the two days before I went hiking and was surprised that 12341372459876 people all fitted with go pros, giant walking sticks and a shitty attitude were at the temple of sinawava when I was trying to get back to the bus. Granted I was also traffic so who am I to talk.

I wish I was heading that way this weekend, but I wont be back until next spring unfortunately.. Then Ill have that crazy kolob adventure!

There is a binder at the Kolob Canyon Visitors Center with a fair amount of route info. Aside from that, rockclimbing.com, MP, and the AAJ have established routes listed. That's about all I could find. People are funny when it comes to Kolob. In most threads I've dug up, either on Mp, supertopo,or rock climbing.com, the consensus seems to be anti-guidebook, anti-topo, "if you want it go figure it out for yourself". I have mixed feelings about all that but I can say it's pretty awesome to have a world class climbing area to yourself. It's also great to share a route you've done with others and have them genuinely enjoy it, so I really don't know.

I may have misunderstood you Chase; Are you talking free or aid? There are no easy big wall aid routes in Kolob. I would not recommend going back there with the intent of having a grand adventure as a budding aid climber. There are some great single pitch cracks that are listed in the Supertopo book you ordered I'd start your trip there.

Good adventure away from everyone and everything according to a trusted source.

The guidebook "metal in your head" by jack tackle may have more similar routes and lots of good reading. Good luck finding one though.
