Shuttle bus in Zion

How do you get an early start on routes when the bus starts at 7:00 am? Are there exceptions to the no private vehicle rule? I'm eating lunch by 7. Please tell me there's a work around! Any info greatly appreciated, especially since contact with park officials is nearly impossible. Thanks in advance.

No way around that I know of other than walking, biking, or having someone drop you off. I asked around last time I was there and couldn't come up with anything.

Having someone drop you off works. The hard part is convincing them to get up at 3 AM!

What you want is a white permit. go to the Wilderness Desk tell them you need a white permit because you are starting or finishing before or after the shuttle.

White permit huh? That allows you to park your own vehicle in areas along the road? Awesome! The shuttle hours don't seem reasonable for long routes w/out planning to bivy. Are there a limited # of white permits issued, and is there a fee? Thanks again.

No Fee is required however, the ranger has to feel that your request is valid. you can park in the vicinity of your route. I don't think there is a cap on permits.

Yep, agree with Rob, permit was free and pretty easy to get.

Zion has been incredibly accommodating to me as a climber. And the shuttle bus system leaves the canyon quieter and cleaner than it would be congested with cars. So yes, as already shared, you can get a permit if you need an early start. Just make sure there's a mutual understanding as to where you're parking. They definitely want you parking EXACTLY where there permit states. They can get a little testy about that.

I know this isn't much better than 7 but as of a week ago the buses were running by 6am. However if you need an earlier start like rob said get a white permit.

Why don't you just man the fuck up and climb harder?

As a white man, I assumed I wouldn't need a permit. Figured I could roll in like I own the place.

Usually this would work, but you're in Zion, white people are a dime a dozen.
