Mammoth Lakes Climbing dog friendly?

I usually leave the dogs at home during climbing trips to the East Side or in Tuolumne Meadows, but most of the climbing is either I Bishop for bouldering and Owens River gorge for sport. I know I can bring my two pups to these places and not Tuolumne since dogs aren't allowed in any trails. I was wondering if dogs are allowed in the climbing near Mammoth Lakes area...If not we will probably camp and climb in Clark Canyon, which I know isn't regulated.

Not certain of the current status, but flies and yellow jackets have been an issue for humans and canines at Clark Canyon. It would be a pity to have your canine companion suffer from the insects.

Edit: Jan..sorry if I gave the impression that there are any regulations regarding dogs being on a lease at Clark Canyon. My intent was simply to give you a heads up regarding the potential for your dog to be harassed by flies and yellow jackets, when the "bees" are problematic at Clark Canyon, and to emphasize the need to be responsible dog owners as there are too many canine-haters sharing the crags.

thanks for the info. We usually always have them on the leash unless I know it's a dog friendly area where others don't mind having dogs running around. And we always pack out their poop.

All the areas outside of the National Parks are dog friendly. As normal if you make sure your pups are well behaved, you and your dogs will have a blast. There are plenty of lakes for them to swim in too. Check out all the areas in Mammoth around Horseshoe Lake - lots of rock and lots of dogs too.

I got another question about camping...

from the mammoth guide book it says coldwater campground, lake george and sherwin creek campground are closed already, BUT a friend said you can still camp at these areas, but there is no camp host and the bathrooms are closed so no fee required. Can anyone confirm?

Jan,

Wouldn't it be easier to just call the USFS and ask them?

Better to ask forgiveness than permission.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
