My homes just had his car broken into. Half the shit was stolen. He's got his old folks renter's insurance but the deductable is 4 thou. That does suck. He will be replacing a grand worth of gear. He also is afraid to file the claim for his parents' policy may be cancelled if he does. What should he do?

$4,000 deductible?? Sounds awfully steep.

Never heard of a 4k deductible on renters insurance. 1k is typically the max.

That is a really awful deductible. But there's not much hope of not paying it even if he wanted to make a claim. He would have to claim that a lot more than $4k worth of stuff was stolen to make that worth it, but then good luck proving it to the insurance company. (I'm not advocating fraud; it sucks, move on.)

Sounds to me that your Homes can try to outsmart the insurance company and go to prison for a few years for fraud. If it is his parent's policy then your homes prolly should run the thieft past his old folks. But being that the price of the gear is a 1/4th of the de-duct he can Flick a few burgers for a month and pay off the lost gear. After that pull his parents tits out of his mount and be a big boy go and get his own renter’s policy so he’s not boned next time.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
