Camping recommendations near SLC 9/12

Flying out of SLC Sunday morning and am trying to find a spot to camp/sleep in my car Saturday night(9/12). Any recommendations as far as Mill Creek Canyon or Mt. Aire Canyon go? Are there any good spots I could pull out at to crash? I read that you have to be 1/4 mile from the road to camp but I'm guessing that means if you are going to set up a tent.

There are a couple hostels around salt lake that go around $20 a night

Walmart on foothill, You can pull off sleeping in BCC pretty well if you wanna be outside of the city.
