Apparently, BlueWater endorses it.BW also says: " Marking pens are fine to use on ropes as long as they are water based laundry markers. Years ago solvent based markers were the norm. Some of the solvents used in these old pens could reduce the strength of the sheath strands marked. These days most pens are water based so this is not as much of an issue as in years passed. We recommend a Sharpie rub a dub laundry marking pen." rescuegear.com/pmi-tec-rope… backcountry.com/beal-rope-m… |

I always use Dullee brand markers, because Sharpies are way too sharp. |

I get the top of page 2. |

IMO rope manufacturers need to be marking the middle of their ropes better so that this discussion doesn't need to occure! The bi-color is great but not all companies make it and many of the factory middle marks fade rather quickly. Seems silly that we can spend hundreds of dollars on a rope and have to mark the middle ourselves with a pen... |

They mark it just fine |
|
I wish they would mark the rope in a color other than black. Its kind of hard to see my rope's middle mark because of all the aluminum oxide on it. I guess I just need to wash my rope again. |

bearbreeder wrote:They mark it just fine In fact its better thay they leave the mark off IMO ... Personally i prefer to mark it myself after verifying ita actually correct ... There been MPers who found the mark or pattern change on their ropes to be off Not to mention if you chop a rope youll need to remark the middle Just pick up a laundry sharpie (or beal rope marker) and mark it yourself Thats all there is to it ;)Yeah, All of that I prefer MY middle mark, its correct to my rope, and more visible. I use a stripe pattern that's always discernible from other dirty/ wet spots or whatever and is actually more easily noticed than a solid black patch that has faded some. |

Rope companies do not use a special marker. Petzl advocates for the Sharpie brand as well. Not a problem! |

FACT: Middle marking your rope with Sharpie actually makes your rope close to 5% stronger. |

I dropped my sharpie. Should I replace it because microfractures? |

So I marked the middle of my rope with a sharpie which makes it stronger. But I also dropped my rope so I'm worried about the microfractures. Do these phenomomena cancel each other out??? Someone help!! |
