Devil's tower rope?

Can I manage with a 70m single rope on the tower?
I'm flying in from overseas and would really rather not having to carry my double as well.

Nope.

It is highly recommend that you use two ropes on the tower. Two sixties or two seventies will allow you to access and repel off anything there.

We got by with a tag line, though friction made for a tough pull one time.

I have done the Meadows raps with a 70m before. If you decide to try it, be sure to have a full 70m on stretchy (skinny) rope, tie knots in the ends, and be prepared to down-climb a short 4th class section on the last rappel. It did not feel sketchy when I did it.

EDIT to add: Of course if you're rope shopping, then just buy an 80m and you'll be set.

A 70m is perfect, IF you are for sure going to the top.
Otherwise doubles are usually required.

I just went to the top two weeks ago and we came down the meadows. We bought two 70 meters but realized during the repel that you CAN make it safely down with one 70 meter rope. With a 70 meter rope it will take down to a safe ledge from the top to the meadows. From the Meadows you can rap a line just right (east) of El Cracko Diablo. You will have to do 3 raps. It will
Get you down to the base of Soler and TAD. Just scrabble down from there using the east rant approach.

Single 80 gets you most any where
