Pregnancy Harness - Mountain Mama vs Petzl Full Body vs ?

FYI, my wife used the yates harness while she was pregnant. It got the job done and we got it for free so we couldn't complain too much. The main complaint she had was the adjustability. The tie in points always seemed to run across her belly and there was no way to adjust the height of them in relation to the leg loops-this isn't the case for the mountain momma. There was also no way to make the waist (I guess they don't really run across your waist) straps wider as you get larger.

My wife is pregnant and we are looking for a full-body harness. The Camp Magic II seems appealing but it is "one size fits most", and my wife is only 5' and 107 lbs even at 15 weeks. Does anyone have feedback (for the Camp, or other full-body harnesses) for a pregnant woman who is about same size? Thanks.

unfortunately i don't have a good suggestion for you, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm about 5' 7" height and used to weight 128 lbs at the beginning of my pregnancy and I'm using a Camp Magic II full body harness. I'm at 24 weeks now and I still have to tighten the harness all the way, so I think that it would be really too big for your wife.

Thanks for the feedback. I just found and ordered the Petzl 8003 on closeout after reading Carrie Cooper's post since it fit her 5'1" frame.

I have a general question:

At what stage did everybody switch from regular harness to full-body? I am currently only 14 weeks so still using a regular harness with no issues. I'd like to keep using my regular harness for as long as possible, but don't want to damage the baby!

My wife is at 16 weeks and used her regular harness until about 14 weeks; she has grown a lot in the last couple weeks. You obviously don't want to damage the baby, but the other potential issue is the harness gets pushed below your hips and you flip.

Tonight will be the first time she uses the Petzl 8003, but it seems to fit, just in case you are in the 5' range.

I think it really varies from one person to the other, according to how soon your belly starts to grow bigger. I started using my full body harness at about 20 weeks, probably would have started a couple of weeks earlier if I had had one.
I tried to push it as long as I could before switching to the full body harness, but the reality is that when your belly starts growing you don't want to tight your harness on it too much and at that point I was not so confident climbing. As soon as I switched to the full body, I got very confident again and I don't think is that bad after all.

Another option is the CAMP Easy harness. My wife used it this past weekend at the RRG and said it was plenty comfortable and did the job nicely. Oh, and it's on sale for $25 right now:
