5.10 Verdon Shoe Reviews

I just heard about the upcoming Verdon climbing shoe release by 5.10 this fall. It seems to be out in Europe perhaps? Anyone have any reviews and/or information on them? Curious - it's supposed to be quite stiff (stiffest in the 5.10 line) and that's something I am looking for. Interested in the toe shape, and sizing compared to other models if anyone has any information - please share!

Have not heard of the Vulcan but the Verdon is supposed to be coming out soon and is super stiff edging shoe that looks pretty promising .

You've probably already seen this, but just in case...

Sounds like a cool shoe! Can't wait to check out a pair.

Looks very similar to the Katana Lace, in a great way. Always like to see the major brands competing in similar areas. Sadly, doesn't seem to drive the prices down.

A Five Ten rep that I know told me that 1/2 size down from street shoe was his preferred sizing for climbing technical granite. I have ordered a pair off the Five Ten website, and will report back on how they fit.

Please let us know when they become actually available and you get them. And fit being everything any impressions comparing the last shape and the size you got compared to any other shoes you own (regardless of brand) would be great. I'm going to have to mail order a couple pair and return one (living in Ohio doesn't give me many chances to try them on). And Thanks!

Thanks but I just talked to them - no size 12.5 or 13 available yet - probably for a month or two still - sad! Still interested in how they fit compared to other shoes - I have a pair of Newtons in size 12 that fit well - also a pair of Galileo's in 12 that are too small. It seems to depend on how aggressive the heel is and how pointed the toe is??? Looking forward to some reviews!

Yeah Kerwin, please let us know. What I am really hoping is that the Verdons can be sized bigger to wear on all day routes because of the plastic stiffener. A lot of us FiveTen fans are hoping this is the shoe to replace the discontinued Anasazi Blancos.

Here are my initial impressions.

Very stiff under the forefoot, moderately stiff under the mid foot. Standing on small slopey edges the shoe does not roll at all. The toe box is a bit wider then the Blanco and the heelcup is a much better fit then any of the anasazi shoes were for me (does not dig in). I have worn them 2 times for an hour each while climbing on the auto belay, very little discomfort out of the box, but provide some serious edging power when tightened down. I think these things are going to murder it on vertical granite. These feel similar to the lace up blanco, but stiffer under foot and a better fit for my foot (toe and heelcup).

Sizing:I sized down 1/2 size from street, I bought 9.5 Verdons, and I wear a 10 street shoe.

I've been looking at these too. I love me some pinks and moccs. Kerwin, you wouldn't happen to own a pair of pinks to compare sizing to, would you?

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for!!! Darn huge feet of mine means that I have to wait a couple months (hopefully no longer than that) before I can get a pair - the large sizes aren't available yet.

I do not own pinks, but I do wear an Anazazi Blanco in a 9.5 sized so that I can wear them for 4-5 pitches (taking them off in between pitches), before the heel cup becomes to painful.

I can't even wear the Blancos for more than a pitch, the heels are very painful.

So, it seems like the Blancos and the Verdons are sized the same, or is one of these in 9.5 tighter than the other?

If the anasazi pink toebox was too wide for me, will the verdon give me the same problem? I'm investigating tc pro alternatives

You cherry picking from your pay it forward request?

Yes and no - they are used at the climbing wall but I did use them to see what size I wear in a 5.10 shoe. :). Climbing shoe sizing is a real crap shoot - one thing the Pay It Forward stuff has done is let me try out a lot of different models - which is kinda neat. Depending on the brand and model - I wear anywhere from an 11 to a 13.5 sized shoe.
My shoe of choice is the Tenaya Masai right now followed by my La Sportiva Muira's but I like a really stiff shoe so when I saw the Verdon I wanted to try a pair. I am trying to figure out what size to mail order because no one in Ohio is ever going to stock them for me to try on..... so I tried on all the ones at the wall. thanks again!
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
